Join us for a presentation from Alexis Grinde Ph.D. Wednesday, September 23rd at 2:30 PM. Alexis is the Wildlife Ecologist, Forest and Land Research Group Leader for the University of Minnesota Natural Resources Research Institute. Her research focuses on the intersection of conservation ecology, spatial habitat dynamics, and the science of restoration to understand how environmental shifts and climate change affect biodiversity. By utilizing avian populations as biological indicators, she evaluates wildlife responses to land management and landscape alterations. Her findings directly inform strategic planning for conservation, aiming to safeguard species at risk while strengthening the resilience of ecosystems.
Drawing on several restoration projects in the St. Louis River Estuary, this talk explores how birds can serve as indicators of habitat quality and help reveal the key site-scale features needed to support biodiversity and ecosystem resilience. Restoration is more than putting the right plants in the right place. It is about rebuilding the structure and function that allow ecosystems to persist and adapt.
