Soil Scientists Summer Field Tour

The MAPSS Summer Tour (Field Day) is July 29, 2022 at the Two Rivers Lake County Park in Albany, Minnesota.

Registration: MAPSS Summer Tour Registration Link

Sign in will begin at 7:45 AM with our day’s events starting at 8:15 AM sharp! We will begin the day at the Two Rivers Lake Park Shelter with speakers well versed in their topics that will provide participants with a great background for the remainder of the day. We will spend mid-morning to late afternoon examining soil profiles and related landscapes within the park at a series of soil sampling stations. The stations are located along two transects that include well drained to poorly drained mineral and organic soils.  This field experience is structured to have broad appeal to those interested in ‘hands on’ observation of soil physical properties, soil wetness features, describing what you see, and observing wetland boundaries and hydric soil indicators.

We will be outside the entire day, mostly in mixed hardwood and prairie vegetation. A box lunch will be served at the picnic shelter with public drinking water available plus soft drinks and bottled water. Breakfast is on your own. There will be coffee and donuts at the registration station!

The event agenda is linked, along with an registration form, or if you prefer, you may register online. If you are a MAPSS member or a student, you will be emailed a discount code. If you do not have one, email the secretary at secretary@mnsoilscientist.org.
